Vanilla Challah French Toast
Who knew french toast could be so easy, yet so delicious! Only taking 20 minutes, this french toast is the epitome of “pillowy.” It’s perfect for a brisk fall morning as you get hints of cinnamon and nutmeg in each airy bit of the challah.
Yields: 4 slices
Total Time: 20 minutes
Ingredients:
3 large eggs
¾ cup of whole milk
½ tablespoon of vanilla extract
½ tablespoon of honey
1 teaspoon of cinnamon
⅛ teaspoon of ground nutmeg
¼ teaspoon of salt
4 slices of challah bread, 2 inches thick
Unsalted butter
Maple syrup
Confectioners sugar
Instructions:
In a 9 by 12 inch baking dish, whisk together the eggs, milk, vanilla, honey, cinnamon, nutmeg, and salt.
Place the four slices of bread into the baking dish. Let soak for 3 minutes. Flip them over and let them soak for 3 minutes on the other side.
Heat a non-stick pan over medium heat. Once the pan is hot, place one pad of butter onto the pan, let it soften slightly and immediately place one slice of challah on it. You may want to, using your hands, wipe off any excess batter from the challah before placing onto the pan, therefore a ring of scrambled egg doesn’t form. Repeat this process for the remaining slices of bread.
Let the challah cook for 3-5 minutes per side or until golden brown.
Top with maple syrup and confectioners sugar.
